"Time's arrow neither stands still nor reverses, it only marches forward."
"Time's arrow marches? Oh look at me! I'm a marching arrow!"
The idea of time is important for communication of events. It's one of the concepts that has no concrete existence, but has been adopted by the world as an important way of measuring events in sequence. There was a few minutes ago when I wrote the preceding sentence, this moment, when I write this specific word, and there will be a future, when I will write the next two or three words.
That's true, isn't it?
If we hold it up to scrutiny, the idea of a time other than now is completely ridiculous. There's no way to point it out, to give shape to it.
But what about records - relics of past events, documents, birth certificates, books. Surely that proves that there were events that happened before now. Whilst the fact that those records exist, is indeed concrete, attributing it to the concept of time is just a self-fulfilling prophecy.
One can only experience the past right now; through those aforementioned records and relics. There is no other way that it is.
And then there's the future: The plans we make, the predictions, the weather forecasts. Important to get ahead of situations as they may happen. But that too is just an illusion. All plans are made right this instant, and if you think you made a plan in the past that helps you navigate the present. That again, as well, is an illusion. You make the plan now, and the pay off happens right now.
The time is now. So seize this moment.
